At long last, our boxes from the Philippines finally arrived. Bobby went to the customs office at noon to clear them. We were worried because I had forgotten to include our books in the items we declared as “to follow” when we arrived. Turns out, the customs officer didn’t even look at Bobby’s permanent residence card — didn’t even look at his face! He was done in 5 minutes.
Now all the clothes, toys, CDs, books, DVDs, photos and albums that we own are in this house. They arrived in a big truck:
The man who brought them had a hard time opening the wooden crate (good job, Goetz!). But after about 20 minutes, he finally made an opening.
The kids watched with anticipation from the porch (PS: Anton is wearing his diaper cover on his head!).
I am so happy to finally have all my clothes. When the kids and I were taking them out of the boxes, it seemed they would never end! To think I had given away so many clothes, shoes and bags before we left. There’s nothing like moving to make you realize how much stuff you have.
And nothing like starting over with almost nothing to make you realize you really need very little.

Well put, Lec. We really need very little. It’s just that we get so carried away by materialism and wanting more that before we know it, we’ve accumulated so many things that we don’t really need. Suze Orman, the financial guru, said that she only has one pair of earrings. She could afford to buy more, but she does not need them. I have to learn to follow her example.
