"To become a better writer, first be a better reader."
That's what I believe.
So if you're wondering how to become a better writer, bookmark Maria Popova's reading list of advice from 116 of the world's best writers in her post, "Timeless Advice on Writing: The Collected Wisdom of Great Writers."
I'm geeking out because the list includes my all-time favorites like Isabel Allende, E. B. White, and Margaret Atwood.
And if you're a copywriter, "10 No-Bullshit Tips on Writing" from David Ogilvy is a must-read.
The list also includes quotes from each writer, like:
“You can only write regularly if you’re willing to write badly… Accept bad writing as a way of priming the pump, a warm-up exercise that allows you to write well.” - Jennifer Egan
“Perfectionism is the voice of the oppressor, the enemy of the people. It will keep you cramped and insane your whole life.” - Anne Lamott
“Show up, show up, show up, and after a while the muse shows up, too.” - Isabel Allende
Read through the articles on Popova's list and, beware, you might become a better writer.

Is your favorite writer on the list? What's your favorite writing advice?
